Tutoring Experience

I obtained a PGCE in Biology with Science from Queens University Belfast in June 2011. I gained experience in teaching GCSE Single Science and Double Award Biology, as well as CCEA A-Level Biology and CCEA/EdExcel A-Level Health & Social Care. I have my own learning and teaching resources and have experience with A-Level Biology practicals and coursework. I mentor A-Level students for university interviews and I have an extensive archive of science magazines articles, news reports and videos which I make available for students. I also have experience as an A-Level and GCSE Biology examiner for CCEA which places me in a good position to enhance the examination technique of my students.
I have been tutoring A-Level CCEA Biology since January 2012 and I have enjoyed much success with numerous students. I have taught students from the following schools: Ballymena Academy, Banbridge Academy, Friends School, Loreto College, St Killian's Grammar, St Marys Grammar Magherafelt, Hunterhouse College, Our Lady & St Patrick's, Strathearn School, St Louis Grammar, St Malachy's College, Slemish College, Ballyclare High, Dalriada Grammar and Victoria College.

Tutoring Approach

RESOURCES PROVIDED TO STUDENTS:
(i) succinct and colourful summary sheets on a per topic basis, the content of which is tailored to the mark schemes
(ii) past paper question booklets on a per topic basis
(iii) past paper answer booklets of ALL questions from 1997 to the present year
(iv) uploaded videos per topic to aid understanding
(v) uploaded learning log resources for extra reading. These not only enhance the knowledge a person holds about a topic and increases their scientific literacy (which is useful for interviews and for preparation for university courses) but also demonstrates how a topic is being used and expanded upon in real life situations, highlighting its importance and applicability to careers.
(vi) relevant summarised BBC News reports per topic
(vii) detailed PowerPoints per topic to broaden knowledge and instill enthusiasm beyond specification content. These are useful, when combined with learning logs, for university interviews. I share these resources via Google Drive so students need to have an account set up.#/k#
