I'm a residential researcher with a First Class honours degree in Mathematics from the University of Manchester, and had gained a Diploma in Actuarial Techniques in the early part of my career. My main hobbies revolve around sport but I do like a good intellectual discussion.
I helped teach English to a group of Spanish students in Cordoba, Spain a number of years ago as well as Mathematics and English to teenage boys in Manchester while at university on a voluntary basis. I've now gained two years experience in formal tutoring.
I am very passionate and enthusiastic about maths which is the key aspect to my ratings from the tutees I've had so far. I try to make it interesting and fun, as I know pupils often find maths a daunting prospect and find it hard to motivate themselves when things get hard and tutoring is not just about pumping them with knowledge. I like to be thorough, ensure anyone I tutor understands the concepts I've shown them to my satisfaction and believe patience is a virtue.
I typically start by determining how much my tutee knows with a quiz so as to identify the key problem areas and then week to week look at specific topics in depth.
