Private Online Maths and Physics Tutor

Until I recently retired from full time teaching, I was employed in a large Further Education College, teaching post-16 students on a wide range of courses, from pre-GCSE to adults preparing for university. My interests are wide ranging across all of the Sciences and Mathematics, and I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for these subjects through teaching young people.

Tutoring Experience

I have been employed as a teacher and lecturer in London for over 30 years, specialising in Physics and Mathematics and with experience in general Science subjects up to GCSE level. I have extensive experience teaching Vocational Science and BTec in Applied Science, as well as A Level in Mathematics and Physics and through my direct teaching I maintain an up to date knowledge of curriculum developments and an awareness of any changes to exams. I can also offer tuition to those students undertaking a Foundation degree in Maths, Physics/Engineering and some related HND courses.

Tutoring Approach

In addition to my experience teaching whole classes I also have experience of tutoring individual students towards exam success. My approach to teaching, whether whole class or individual, is based on the belief that it is my responsibility to develop the learner's understanding on a basis of identifying his or her strengths and weaknesses. I aim to support the learner to develop the ability to apply skills and solve problems through independent thinking. I believe in learning Mathematics and Science through discovery whenever possible and aim to build this approach into tutorial sessions. I aim to build on the basis of secure subject knowledge the skills in exam techniques for the learner to achieve success. I view individual tuition as the opportunity to maximise the learner’s access to support which enables him or her to clarify misunderstandings and to consolidate understanding as a foundation for making progress.
