I am a native English speaker, but have also lived in France for several years and learnt French as an adult. I have experienced the frustration of not understanding the language around me. Trying to read children’s school reports, shopping, dealing with foreign utility bills can be overwhelming.
Learning to live in a new country, dealing with ‘culture shock’ and a new language have given me empathy for those in a similar situation. This led me to train as an ESOL teacher in order to help others in a similar situation.
I qualified to teach ESOL in 2012 (certTESOL level 5) and have taught ages from primary to adult, both in classrooms and online.
Experience in:
IELTS
Skills for Life
General ESOL / TEFL skills
Conversational English
Proof Reading
My teaching style is flexible and creative. My main goal to help the learner gain confidence in speaking, reading and writing English. It is important to me to build a good working relationship with the learner and to understand their goals and motivations. Where relevant, I like to include aspects of the British culture to enhance the learners experience and understanding of their new home.
Preference for teaching online where possible.
