Home Tuition for Psychology in Hove

I am a highly dedicated and experienced teacher of Psychology A level. I have been exclusively delivering Psychology A level full time for 17 years and remain enthusiastic in both my delivery and love for the subject. I am currently Head of Psychology in one of the top performing Sixth Form colleges in the country and have held this position for the past 12 years.

I enjoy working 1 to 1 with students, as in my experience this level of support allows time to focus on specific strengths and weaknesses that are hard to identify and address in a group classroom environment. In the session we will be able to focus on specific areas of strengths and particularly weaknesses to ensure that each student achieves their potential and hopefully works towards exceeding their target grade. I am happy to work with students at any level of ability and aiming for any grade, we will obviously work together towards raising achievement and enabling the most progress to be made.

I have an excellent track record of high student achievement: 100% pass rate and 80% of students achieve high grades (A*-B)

I am available to deliver sessions via Zoom and in person in and around the Brighton and Hove/ Portslade area, as well as in Horsham which is where I work.

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

Tutoring Experience

I have extensive knowledge of teaching the AQA Psychology specification and as such my teaching resources are best suited to tutoring students studying AQA. I have developed an extensive bank of teaching and learning resources that I will be able to use and share during our sessions.

Having also had experience teaching OCR and Edexcel specifications I am able to tutor students studying these exam boards but may not be able to review 100% of the specification as there will be some specific topics covered in alternative specifications that will differ from my current knowledge. There is however a lot of cross over in the specifications as the core topics in psychology remain the same so we will be able to review a large portion of the specification. In addition many of my resources are also suitable for using with students studying other specifications as there are many core topics within the subject.

Tutoring Approach

I use a variety of teaching and learning methods that will be tailored to each student’s needs, this is something we will discuss when we first meet. Each student will respond positively to different teaching methods so I will take a slightly different approach with each student based on their preference and current skill level. I focus on increasing student confidence as I believe that this at the core of making good progress and in achieving the grade that is reflective of both knowledge and ability.

Ultimately, success in the A level is down to students having an in-depth understanding of the content, an ability to effectively apply and to evaluate this knowledge. As such, session will focus on ensuring that there is a key foundation of knowledge, we will then be able to build on this by looking at specific exam questions and applications. The sessions will include the use of a variety of methods such as quick recall, application activities, summaries, using revision cards, verbal explanation, PPT if content re-cap is needed and will obviously focus heavily on answering exam questions, using marks schemes and examiner reports.
