I hold a Master's Degree in English from Trinity College, Cambridge, and I have been teaching English to people of all ages for 15 years. I currently teach Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students at Grainville Secondary School in Jersey, so I am well versed in the GCSE curriculum, and I also teach English as a second language (ESOL) to adults at Highlands College.
My passion is for literature, and my greatest joy is to communicate that passion to my students and enthuse them, from primary school students up to A level.
I am a published author, and I live in Jersey with my wife and three children. I have a good sense of humour, and try to make my lessons as fun as possible.
I have been teaching since 2009. I started work teaching ESOL at St Brelade's College language school in Jersey for the first five years, and since then I have worked for Words and Numbers (a charity, where I taught English Functional Skills), Grainville School and Highlands College. I have also taught loads of private students.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE
I am a published author, and have also worked as a journalist, so I have a broad range of experience in writing professionally. Whether you want to improve your reading and writing skills for school exams (GCSE or A level); write a blog, a news article, or fiction; or just learn how to write better e-mails at work, I can help you hone your skills.
ENGLISH LITERATURE
I have a Masters degree from Cambridge University and I'm passionate about great writing. Whatever your level of interest (GCSE to Oxbridge Entrance), I hope I can enthuse you with a similar passion and that we can enjoy learning about literature together.
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
I like to build my ESOL lessons on a firm foundation of English grammar, but I also like to give my students a good grasp of idiomatic spoken English. Since many of my students are interested in improving their spoken English, I also do a lot of work on perfecting their accent. I am well-spoken myself, so they end up learning how to speak with an educated English accent.
