I am a 19 year old gap year student, who will start at Barts and the London medical school in September to study medicine. I love maths and always have from a young age and have got a grade 9 in GCSE and an A at A levels. I want to tutor to improve my communication skills and alter my teaching methods for different students so I can have a wide experience with many different types of students in a way to improve my own teaching.
I have informal experience tutoring my sister and other family members or family friends.
I begin the lesson by getting to know the student and what they wish to aim for and see what level they are working at with a mini quiz. From this I can see what needs to be improved or if the student knows I can cater lesson plans for them in advance. I typically teach for 20 to 30 minutes of the lesson through example questions and the last 30 minutes I set exam questions and allow the student to do them one by one and talk me through their steps so I can help if needed. I then mark and show the student the markscheme so they themselves can learn to mark their work and see the correct steps needed.
