Hi , I am Mohammed a recent sixth form graduate (2021) and a gap year math's tutor. Currently I am in my second gap year before going to university in September of next year (2023). Having been both a student and tutor recently I believe that I can put myself in my students' shoes and provide them with a path to achieve their goals.
In my first gap year I worked as a math tutor for the Sixth Form College Farnborough for 8 months spanning November of 2021 to July of 2022; I had around 60 scheduled students per week as well as drop in students.
Following a period of two months of tuition there was an average increase of 13% in raw marks in the 60 students attending my maths workshops. Many of my tutees have been successful and have gone to study university courses including biochemistry at St. George's University London and Computer Science at the University Of York.
I offer my first lesson for free (excluding the FirstTutors finders fee) after which I can recommend a plan suited for the student needs going forward.
A typical session will either focus on some work the student has brought in (e.g: Homework/Past papers etc.)
or a topic area of focus for the student (e.g.: differentiation, logarithms etc.) There is usually a combination of both.
For online tuition I use the whiteboard app Miro. Students can draw on the whiteboard canvas or upload their handwritten work; whichever is easier.
After the lesson I will write a brief summary of what was covered in the session and what needs improving with some additional exercises if needed. This provides a clear follow up plan as well as a measure for their understanding.
