Nadia

Hi there,

I'm Nadia, I'm a PhD student based in SW Scotland. I graduated with a First Class Degree from the University of Cambridge (2012-2015) having studied Psychology, Politics and Sociology. I have a Masters (MSc) in Mental Health from King's College London and I have just submitted my PhD thesis into homelessness and social capital at Queen Mary University.

I have been tutoring now for almost 7 years. I only offer online lessons (Zoom/Skype/FaceTime or any other video based software), as I currently live in a rural part of SW Scotland. I have been delivering online sessions for over 4 years now and it works really well; particularly for students doing their Degrees, as they are often at campus/university during term time. Normally I suggest having one online session, to see how it goes, and then if the student is happy with it, we can schedule in more regular sessions.

In addition to Psychology tuition, I am available for study skill tuition. In these sessions we can discuss effective study techniques, how to write a good essay and how to manage your workload. I'm also happy to proof read any essays and provide feedback on this.

I am very reliable, organised and confident in my tutoring abilities. I also really enjoying working with students and catering to their needs.

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored 9 students previously in A-Level Psychology and 7 students with their Psychology Degree. The majority of these students I had throughout their entire academic year, and worked with them on a weekly basis. Others, I had a handful of sessions with, just helping and guiding them with specific projects/ lectures/ essay questions. I also tutored at Camden School for Girls Sixth Form during 2015, visiting the school during the run up to exams, and holding big classes for revision and discussion.

In addition, for the last year, I have been a supervisors/tutor for final year Psychology students at Cambridge University and MSc students at Queen Mary. This required marking essays, holding discussions/seminars, teaching material in the one hour supervision. So I'm confident tutoring and working with students.

Tutoring Approach

I really enjoy tutoring and think I'm good at catering to the student's needs, being clear and helping them to understand the material in a way that makes sense to them. I don't have a specific approach, it's very much student-focused. Whatever works for the student, is the approach I adopt during the session. Generally I try to make the lessons as clear as possible, and often will use real life examples to help contextualise the material a bit more. I am happy to set essay questions/help with exam questions and go over these together. I find that many students struggle with the 'research design' or 'experimental' side of the course and I feel confident that I can explain this area in an easy and helpful way!
