I teach English as a foreign language to adults. I do this online or in person. I teach at all levels but most of my current and recent students are/have been for IELTS and LanguageCert. I feel I am getting really good at these specialisms. I thoroughly enjoy my work.

Tutoring Experience

I have 11 years experience as a Secondary School Science teacher. I taught English as a Foreign Language to classes of adults for one full academic year at St Chad's Sanctuary in Birmingham as a freelance teacher. I have been self employed as an EFL teacher since 2018.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to lessons depends entirely on what the student is aiming to achieve. It can be short specific crash courses specifically aimed at getting the required grade in an imminent IELTS exam. It can be a longer term build up to achieving a high level IELTS band score with rigorous grammar lessons in the the context of Reading, Speaking, Writing and Listening. Alternatively, it can be geared to a more general advance in the student's English language competence.
I employ varied media including traditional exercise book approaches through to video, online exercises and popular film discussion. I teach in a way that allows an element of fun whilst keeping the goal in sight. I am a good humoured person and am happiest when I see a student making good progress.
