I am a retired Secondary Headteacher of an Outstanding School with degrees in Natural Sciences (Cambridge University) and Science Education (University of Victoria, Canada). I have worked in state schools in the UK for over 30 years as well as schools in Australia and Canada. I have enhanced DBS clearance.
As a teacher in the UK I have taught all secondary year groups from years 7-13. I taught full groups but often also picked up intervention groups. This would often include students who had lost hope, motivation and enthusiasm for a variety of reasons. I have also tutored students for Natural Sciences entrance at Cambridge University. In retirement I work as an educational consultant working as a coach and mentor to teachers and school leaders and as a school improvement partner. However, I still really enjoy teaching and working with students. I have extensive experience of teaching all the sciences and maths up to GCSE. Progress of these students has consistently been among the highest in the school over the last 10 years.
I have a well developed knowledge and understanding of what works and what does not working in terms of teaching and learning. I listen carefully and encourage tutees to ask questions so misunderstandings can be addressed. This allows us to identify gaps in knowledge and focus on these areas to improve understanding and learning. I am happy to tutor up to three students who are friends at the same time to reduce their costs. I prefer to tutor online but could also do in person location permitting.
