Home Tuition for Maths and English in Highgate

I specialise in a stage1 and stage 2 reading scheme that I have been delivering in Hillyfield Academy for the last 18 months.
It has proved very successful with individual children ranging from 6 to 11.
It not only improves their basic knowledge of phonics but gives the students confidence in their learning that transmits to other areas of their education.
The progress they made in reading and writing was remarkable and their interest in books was significantly enhanced.
This led to them writing their own books and poetry.
I am a very upbeat positive person who understands the fundamentals of learning and views education as the key to opening up opportunities for all children, regardless of race and class. I have excellent communication skills and am very thorough when planning tasks. My family are now grown up and I have three grandchildren.

Tutoring Experience

I have an depth experience of teaching primary children and also taught at a Pupil Referral Unit in Manchester dealing with children who could not attend mainstream education. I reached the position of Deputy Head at my last primary school. I have run after school clubs, run and participated in a number of school journeys and coached both boys and girls to a high level in both cricket and football.

Tutoring Approach

My approach always centers around inspiring children. To obtain positive results children must enjoy their activity. However this enthusiasm and joy has to be married to a carefully structured lesson plan, that in itself has clear and defined objectives. The combination of these approaches always brings success. Thus understanding the specific needs of the child and their ability is crucial in setting the appropriate goals for their individual needs. The set curriculum will determine much of their learning but to add and supplement this learning with extra relevant activities can be very advantageous for the child and help them move forward in their chosen subject.
