Philippa

I have a PhD in Medieval and Early Modern Studies from the University of Kent. My thesis explores the relationship between the English king and the Pope in the 13th century, but my interests span from the early middle ages up to the 20th century.

I completed a CELTA qualification in 2014 and worked as an English Language Teacher for British Institutes, Novi Ligure (Italy) in 2015.

I currently work as as a heritage engagement coordinator and I have experience leading a number of research, learning and engagement projects funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. My real passion is to get people excited about history, to encourage people to ask questions and to expand their knowledge and understanding of the past.

Tutoring Experience

I have experience as an Associate Lecturer for the School of History at the University of Kent. I have taught modules which have covered Medieval Europe between 1000 and 1450. I focused on developing my students ability to read and interpret primary and secondary sources. I also helped them improve their ability to write academic essays.

I have experience teaching English as a Foreign Language to a range of children and adults.

I also teach piano to students of all ages.

Tutoring Approach

I aim to make my teaching as engaging and accessible as possible, listening to the needs and interests of the student and using a variety of different techniques and methods to cater to these needs.
