I am a positive, bubbly person who loves to learn. Because I love to learn, I also love to facilitate others learning! I have a good sense of humour and a big heart! I love to read and always have a list of books on the go! 'To teach, is to touch a life forever.' This has always been my motto and I have found it an absolute privilege to have the opportunity to help young people grow and develop, not just in their academic knowledge but in their confidence and self-esteem. I am patient and encouraging and want my students to get the most they can from each session. I am a good listener and believe that it is important to assess children's needs and cater my lessons to match their needs.
I am a retired primary school teacher, having taught in the primary sector for 19 years. My degree was in English with Qualified Teacher Status. I have had a wide experience in the teaching sector, having my own class, supply teaching and working in state and private schools. I have experience teaching students with different needs, e.g., dyslexic, autistic and students with emotional behavioural problems. My own daughter is dyslexic, so I have personal experience of the struggles many dyslexics face because they just need someone to teach them a different way. I worked for a time for West Sussex Tutors, where I taught a range of ages from 6 - 11 years. I am also a Christian Youth leader at my church, where I run a 'Youth Hangout' for 11–18-year-olds and also teach on discipleship on a Sunday with ages 11 - 15 years. I currently work online and in person with Key stages 1-4, predominantly in English but I do Maths at Primary level as well.
I usually begin by building a relationship with the pupil as I believe that learning is only possible once this is established. I try to get to know the pupil through talking or playing games. I have a gentle approach which is focussed on the student and their current needs. I am also flexible in my lesson planning, I will always have a lesson ready but if the pupil has a difficult area they need help on from their lesson that day I can put my lesson to the side and help them.
