Online Physics Tutor

I am a qualified teacher and experienced Head of Department. After completing my Master's degree in Physics at Imperial College London, I completed my Science PGCE at King's College London with placements at City of London School for Boys and Grey Coat Hospital School for Girls. I then taught Physics at Bradfield College in Berkshire for a decade, including being Head of Physics there for 5 years. I have been an A-level Physics Examiner for WJEC/EDUQAS.

Tutoring Experience

Bradfield College is a co-ed boarding school with pupils age 13-18. Here I taught Edexcel IGCSE Separate and Double Award Physics, AQA Separate and Dual Award Physics GCSE, OCR Advancing Physics AS and A2 level, WJEC AS and A2 level Physics, and IB Physics to Standard and Higher Level as part of the Diploma Programme. I have also taught AS and A2 Science in Society.

I have an excellent track record with supporting pupils with a range of SEND requirements including dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADHD achieve their potential. I completed a year’s worth of training with the National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth and the University of Warwick on how to best inspire the most academically able and stretch their thinking beyond the set curriculum.

I have been a UCAS tutor for seven years, helping pupils write bespoke, targeted personal statements to achieve places at a wide range of Russell Group universities including Oxford and Cambridge. I also ran the school’s external debating society including Model United Nations, and have judged for other schools at competition level.

Tutoring Approach

Having been an a-level examiner, I know just how crucial exam board specific question practice is to success. It doesn't matter whether the student is trying to improve from a poor mock result at GCSE, or wanting to perfect their answers to achieve an A* at A-level, I modify my approach to suit each individual, in order to maximise their learning. I have numerous years' experience supporting pupils with special educational needs, and can tailor my delivery to their individual requirements. My lessons are sometimes unconventional - mixing theory and questions, with a sprinkling of humour. My aim is to make the sessions memorable, so that when the time comes - the recall is effortless.

Here are some reviews from past students and colleagues:

Arthur
Mrs Clamp was incredible and got me through my A level years. Explained the concepts really well, had fantastic resources and had a really good time in the process! Helped me meet my grades for Oxford so I am forever in her debt!

Billy
I was first taught Physics by Mrs Clamp in year 9, and immediately her passion for the subject was obvious. It was this passion and engagement with the class in a fun and meaningful way that led me to pursue Physics first to A-Level, where I received an A* grade under Mrs Clamp’s tuition and then further to study Physics at the University of Manchester. I can confidently say that those first lessons back in year 9 are what inspired me to take the subject further. Her teaching method is excellent as it both employs fun involvement from the class while still maintaining the professional aspects required in the classroom, including great focus on exam technique which is key at GCSE and A-Level. Mrs Clamp was always available and open to further questions about the subject (which I usually had many of), and always provided helpful answers or suggestions for further reading.
In summary, I would highly recommend Mrs Clamp, as her tuition will not only aid you as you develop with Physics but also help grow your curiosity for the subject and score high grades in your exams.

Lucy
Mrs Clamp’s enthusiasm for her subject, and her passion to get others as interested in a topic as she is, makes learning from her both enjoyable and easy. She is keen to get all her pupils interacting with the syllabus material through verbal discussion as well as textbooks, ensuring no higher-achieving student becomes complacent whilst also encouraging all levels of pupil to get involved. She is an advocate for the ‘practice makes perfect’ approach, putting to use any available example questions and past papers (sometimes under timed conditions) to see if a student has grasped and can correctly use the required concepts and equations, and in my experience this tactic definitely works! Overall, she is a brilliant teacher for all levels of pupil and is willing to put in the extra effort to ensure the best results from each of her individual students, I thoroughly recommend her.
(For context - I was taught by Mrs Clamp for A-level Physics (for which I got an A grade), but also received some additional support for my GCSE and AS-level from her as she was the Head of the Physics Department at that time, as well as a tutor within my boarding house, meaning we had weekly contact.)

Dom
I had Mrs Clamp for my A-Level year for physics and she helped me secure my A and meet my university offer. She was always very approachable with any difficulties I had and really helped me understand the subject. She also taught in a highly interactive and fun way which definitely furthered my interest in physics.
When it came to exam preparation she really helped me learn how to approach questions and was ruthless at making sure I didn't drop any marks carelessly.
I could not recommend her enough!

Tom
I was taught by Mrs Clamp at both GCSE and A-level. She is a master of instilling enthusiasm and controlling sometimes over exuberant pupils. I am still not quite sure how she did it.
I retain an interest in physics to this day, despite studying other fields at University. Gansta Flemings left hand rule and Big Momma Neutrons are very fond memories and a testament of Mrs Clamp's ability to render the complexities of physics enjoyable, understandable and downright interesting.
A first class teacher.

John
I was technician to Mrs Clamp for six years and can vouch that her dedication to pupils, tutees and subject matter is second to none!
