Maths Tutoring in Westerham

I am an outstanding maths teacher with over 20 years experience. I currently teach at an independent school in Surrey, England. I am experienced in teaching students aged 7 - 18 years.
I am an Edexcel examiner, former head of department and an education consultant training maths trainee teachers.

All of those roles allow me to further delve into the subtleties of maths education. Being an Edexcel examiner allows me to review the exam scripts of thousands of students. This gives a deep and thoughtful perspective on where the difficulties in maths education lie.
I am a life-long maths educator, always looking for the next way in which I can inspire a young person to embrace learning, and to fuel their self-belief.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching style is supportive and nurturing. I begin by assessing my students prior knowledge which allows me to address any gaps in knowledge and misconceptions. In each topic, I begin by ensuring that the basic concepts are in place before moving on to more detailed knowledge. I use clearly structured examples to embed key concepts. I use a range of practice questions, with increasing levels of difficulty. For GCSE and A-level students, I include timed questions, from past exam papers. I included analysis of exam questions and mark schemes. I encourage each student to develop good exam technique, by always showing workings, in clear logical steps.
