I am a hard-working and motivated student. I am currently at university and received all As and A*s (eight A*s and two As) at GCSE level in addition to a D1 in Geography Pre-U (equivalent to A** at A Level), an A in A Level History and a B in A Level Government and Politics. I enjoy spending time with young people and being able to pass on knowledge. I have a wide range off interests, particularly in history and current affairs and am widely read. At Charterhouse, I won the whole school debating competition and was editor of the school paper and also won the school's most prestigious History Prize. I also enjoy sport, particularly tennis, squash and football.
While at school I was part of numerous study support groups. This involved helping younger pupils with academic work and homework and filling gaps in their knowledge. I did this regularly for several years. In addition to this I regularly helped my peers and other younger pupils with learning; looking over their work and teaching them different concepts and ideas that they did not fully understand. I was also head of my school's Politics and History societies and on a weekly basis would lead group discussions on matters of politics and history and teach other students about various different topics.
I take a gentle, friendly but firm approach, encouraging pupils to conduct as much as their intellectual discovery themselves. I take pupils through various different topics that they need help on and also help them to apply their new learning into the wider subject that they are studying. I encourage them to tackle problems themselves and to ask questions as much as possible when they are stuck. I avoid spoon-feeding and encourage pupils to learn to think independently for themselves so that they can develop their own skills of critical analysis and be able to further their own curiosity. In order to focus upon efficiency of learning I teach all the specifics outlined in a subject's specification in order to make sure that they are full aware of the material that can come up in an examination, helping to save time and maximise the marks received.
