I have taught family friends in the past at this level and have gotten them to gain better understanding in a small time span. I have taught all levels of students and they have all gotten a positive impact.
A very direct approach of explaining and solving problems and getting the student to explain their thoughts processes when tasked with a question. I would use what helped me and try to adapt it to what I think works best for them.
