I have been teaching English at secondary level for 6 years now. I believe that English is the most interesting subject and can help us to understand the nuances of language and how people communicate - an essential skill for life. I look forward to helping you to access and progress in this amazing subject.

Tutoring Experience

As an experienced qualified teacher of 5 years, I have taught a diverse range of students: from the lowest ability to the highest; native English speakers and those who are new to English; students with a range of SEND needs. For each pupil, I have adjusted work to make it accessible yet challenging to enable them to progress.

During my time as a teacher, I have marked for both the CIE iGCSE English as a First Language exam and I currently mark AQA Paper 1 Literature. This has given me an insight into how the exams are marked and what pupils need to do to achieve the highest grades. As a result, the grades my pupils achieve are top quality - with my latest GCSE class achieving 80% grades 6-9.

I have experience teaching the following GCSE texts in depth: Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Merchant of Venice, A Christmas Carol, The Sign of the Four, Lord of the Flies, Blood Brothers, Power and Conflict Anthology.

Tutoring Approach

I am often commended for the great relationships I build with my students and I know this is an essential part of the teaching process. Any student I tutor will have the learning tailored to their direct needs in an understanding and encouraging manner.
