I have a first class degree in Mathematics from the University of Manchester and I have a PGCE in 11-18 secondary teaching. I have been head of department for a number of years at my current college but for family reasons stepped back and began tutoring instead.
I have been teaching in a sixth form college for the past 20 years. I have extensive experience in teaching GCSE Maths and A level Maths. I have a track record of excellent results in GCSE, AS and A level.
I have been an examiner for Edexcel for A level Mathematics for the past 7 years and I know where students are likely to lose marks and how to increase their grades by improving their exam technique and by building their confidence.
Initially I like to assess the student to see what their needs are and then based on that I put together a programme of study. I try my best to break difficult concepts down to ensure students really understand what they are doing and then with the student we apply these concepts. I try to do sessions that are focused on particular topics and closer to the exam I move to exam practice. I have been tutoring for 9 years now and I have a track record of moving students up 2 or 3 grades.
Please contact me directly to discuss availability. I prefer to have most of my lessons online and as long as the student has a tablet and a stylus, online lessons work extremely well. I understand many parents want face to face lessons but in the words of an old tutee of mine who I taught once a week face to face and once a week online “ online lessons are on par, if not better than face to face lessons”. This is mainly because the student and I write on the same screen and at the end of the lesson students get a pdf copy of what we did in that session.
Face to face lessons can be delivered at my home or if you live locally I can travel to you for an extra charge per lesson.
