I have been teaching for 14 years and have worked as Head of Biology in an outstanding college along with working at a range of top independent and state schools. I am an experienced teacher who is very passionate about my subject. I am professional and reliable and dedicated in supporting students to achieve their very best. Prior to teaching, I trained as an Ecologist and I have worked in the UK and abroad on conservation projects. Marine biology is one of my other passions and I have also worked as a SCUBA diving instructor in Malta and Mexico. I believe that these life experiences enable me to bring science to life for many young people.

Tutoring Experience

I have 14 years teaching experience at KS3, GCSE and AS/A Level Biology using a range of specifications (AQA, OCR, Edexcel and IGCSE). In addition to this, I have also worked in other educational settings, such as forest schools and outdoor activity centers. I have provided 1:1 tuition for 5 years and I have worked with a number of different students from various backgrounds and I am able to relate to students with different needs. As Head of Department, I regularly attended examiner training to ensure I am able to inform students how to answer exam questions. This is extremely important, in light of the changes to the specification now being linear and relying so heavily on the exams.

Tutoring Approach

My students say that I am approachable, patient and have the ability to break down difficult concepts so they can understand them. I am keen to tailor my tutoring around the needs of my students. This may involve helping students with their current topics, preparing for tests, organisation, revision plans or exam technique. I provide resources (such as revision material and exam questions) as part of my lessons (where required) and plan my lessons to ensure my students gain the most out of their sessions.
