I am mother of 2 children, now adult. I have a wide range of interests as well as my subject expertise (biology and science) including the arts, especially music and going to the theatre and cinema. I have one dog. I also have three degrees! Two of these are through the Open University so I understand the pressure of studying alone. I am also an ordained priest.

Tutoring Experience

I have over 30 years of teaching experience. I have taught both in secondary and sixth form, including teaching international students so am used to teaching those for whom English is not their first language. I have considerable experience as a teacher of A level Biology and have taught a number of different specifications. I have taught science to GCSE as well as IGCSE. I am an experienced tutor and am used to teaching individuals.

Tutoring Approach

I have a flexible approach dependent upon the needs of the tutee. I often use past paper questions as the basis of my tuition as this helps me to assess the needs of the tutee. This approach also helps to build up the confidence of the tutee as it helps them to develop better exam technique - a reason why students often feel the need for the support of a tutor. I will also spend time working on subject knowledge using bullet points and diagrams to help the tutee in their understanding.

My experience with the Open University has meant that I have developed many strategies to help me with my studying and I draw on these to help the students that I am tutoring.
