Hi, This is Sam. I am a current A-level and GCSE Science teacher with 15 years of tutoring experience. I have an extensive knowledge of the AQA, Edexcel, OCR A, CIE and Eduqas (WJEC) exam boards.

My students show remarkable improvement and achieve excellent results. Many of them have achieved full marks in their exam papers and fulfilled their goal of obtaining a place in prestigious courses ( such Medicine, Dentistry and Engineering ) at top universities across the country. Some of the students that i have tutored have managed to improve their grade from D in A-level chemistry and biology exams to an A or A* within the course of few month of tutoring.

I have gained a doctoral degree in science from the Manchester University. I have also obtained a Master’s degree, in science and a Bachelor’s degree (in Genetics ) from the University of Sheffield (UK). I have completed a postgraduate course in education and gained my qualified teacher status from Manchester University.

My interest to teach others started from an early age when i was at the elementary school and has continued right up until the present day as a science teacher. For as long as I recall , I have been always very keen in explaining scientific concepts and ideas to my classmates and later on to my students at universities, colleges and schools . Teaching and tutoring is my passion . It is very satisfying and rewarding to see students achieve a thorough understanding of the complex scientific concepts and then apply that to solve challenging problems .

Tutoring Experience

I have extensive experience of teaching and tutoring Key stage 3 , Key stage 4 and Key stage 5 pupils in both private and mainstream schools and collages in UK. I have thought Science subjects ( physics , chemistry and biology) to Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils. I also regularly teach A-level Biology and Chemistry to students across the country.

I have the following subjects Expertise :
Key Stage 3 Science.
GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
A-level Biology.
A-level Chemistry.
Advice with writing UCAS personal statements , applications, references and interview preparation is available.

I am able to consistently set goals that motivates , enthuse and challenge all pupils including those with special needs, so that they can achieve and exceed their potential. When differentiating work for students I adjust the type and amount of support required for the individual but my expectations remain high for all students. I use a varieties of formal and informal methods of assessment when I am teaching to ensure engagement and good attainment of pupils. My students are able to improve and reflect on their own work which helps us to identify gaps in their knowledge and improve them.

As a current teacher and examiner, I have an awareness of developments and changes in subject and curriculum areas and also an understanding of strategies to promote high literacy skills. I have good knowledge about the pupils capabilities and drawing on assessments. When speaking to students I use positive reinforcement consistently and immediately to ensure students feel their contributions are recognised, valued and encouraged. I always set high expectations of both myself and the students I teach. Research has shown that students expected to show greater development, do show greater development. I strongly believe that high standards contribute to students being able to achieve their potential.

Tutoring Approach

As a professional science teacher who has taught 100s of students over the past 15 years , i I always make sure my students have the prior knowledge required to understand the new topics. Topics in science subjects are highly related. They just get more complicated as the students progress to a higher level. So it is essential for students to have a solid prior knowledge for the new topics they are learning. It is also vital to apply pupils knowledge to exam questions regularly . This helps the students to use key terminologies and answer those important questions in the exam. The mark schemes is quite specific for GCSE and A-level exams and the students often dont know how to answer the question properly despite having the knowledge .So it is necessary that they practise exam questions after they gained the knowledge with an experienced teacher to secure a high grade in exams.
