I am a recent graduate from the University of Nottingham, where I studied Politics and International Relations, where I was awarded a First. I have such a passion for the subject and feel that I can really make the subject interesting. I became interested in Government and Politics at A Level, where I was top of my year in the subject and received an A*. I have kept all my resources and notes from that time, including online copies, hoping I could pass them on and share them with others. I am personable and easy to talk to. I also understand that tutoring is not always due to a lack of understanding of the subject and is sometimes due to a student’s lack of confidence in themselves, an issue which I tackled with throughout my schooling and I am therefore very patient.
I tutored throughout university and have also tutored family friends as well. I have also led educational summer camps in the past for kids 11 and up, teaching them on a variety of subjects from the environment, social issues and current affairs.
I understand that every student is unique so the approach would be tailored to each student and their needs. Ideally, I would first find out the problem topic areas in the subject. I would find this out by finding out from the student, their work and ability to discuss the topic. Once I have found out the areas or topics the student struggles with, I will collate a list and prioritise the ones that needed to be work through the most. I would then work with the student to ensure they can discuss the topic as well as be able to plan and later write questions on that area. I will also provide resources and helpful notes in that process. However, lessons would not be limited to just that list, with the student able to raise topic areas that they are currently learning at school and would like additional help with. I can also help with organisation, helping students to find the best way to collate their notes and classwork in order to make it easier for revision in the future. Whilst I studied Edexcel Government and Politics, I use the exam board specification in order to ensure all the correct content is covered for the student.
