Maths and English Tutoring in Chichester

I am a senior lecturer at Chichester University and have over 30 years experience in education. I am an author and published 'Outstanding Primary Teaching and Learning' (OUP) in 2016, as well as contributing to other educational publications. I am passionate, enthusiastic and energetic and this I ably communicate into my life and all that is educational. I have particular interests in creativity and cognitive science, as well as the expressive arts. I also enjoy cooking, entertaining and dancing, as well as relaxing and therapeutic benefits of painting, yoga and meditation.
I have 2 children aged 9 and 12 and a motorhome called Gordon, in which we have many adventures.

Tutoring Experience

Currently I coordinate professional studies for postgraduates in teacher training. I also teach undergraduate modules in professionalism and pedagogy, science and D&T. My previous roles were primary school classteacher, SENCo, Deputy Headteacher, Acting Headteacher, and coordinator across a range of NC subjects.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is informed through understanding how children or adults best learn. I draw upon my experience and my research of how to successfully engage learners to develop their confidence and self-esteem. With me they will develop a ‘can do’ attitude which will give them a love of learning and belief in themselves. Fun and feeling motivated is key; coupled with empowering the learner to take ownership over what they are doing. My approach uses assessment to inform exactly where the starting point should be and next steps. On-going monitoring and feedback allow the learn to progress and feel good about their successes. A friendly and nurturing approach is essential as positive, trusting relationships support the learning process.
