I have over 7 years tutoring experience and a firm commitment to developing a student's passion for the subject in order to help them learn.
I started my tutoring career immediately after graduating Oxford University, wanting to pass the skills and knowledge I'd learnt onto a younger generation. I fell in love with tutoring after seeing how quickly my students progressed, and the newfound enthusiasm with which they approached their work. Their progress and gratitude inspired me to continue tutoring, since I realised how fulfilling tutoring was for me.
Over the years, I have achieved excellent results with my students and absolutely love inspiring them to achieve their full potential. I have helped numerous students achieve top marks in their A-Levels, GCSEs, Entrance exams and school exams. I have helped numerous students gain entrance into their first choice universities and secondary schools.
Reviews:
Sam was a terrific help to my daughter - when she was dealing with the challenges of philosophy and moral arguments, and the complexity of the Bible, he was a beacon of clarity and help. He really did encourage her too, and her confidence definitely grew. I would recommend Sam without reservation. (Parent of a Year 13 student)
"Sam was fantastic and just what my daughter needed. She had been quite anxious as she is quite shy with people she doesn’t know but his manner and obvious knowledge of the subject won her over very quickly." (Mother of Year 13 student).
I am an extremely experienced one-on-one tutor for Humanities subjects, having been working as one for the past six years. I work with a number of established tutoring agencies like Keystone Tutors, Bright Young Things and Holland Park Education, as well as tutoring with charities like the Access Project. I've worked with students of all sorts of levels and backgrounds and take great joy in adapting my teaching style to fit each new student.
I have worked with over one hundred students across my career, working on Philosophy/Religious Studies A-Level, English and History GCSE. In those subjects I have tutored across multiple exam boards, topic areas and set texts and am well-versed in anything that exams might throw up across these subjects. I have led bespoke lessons on exam technique and essay writing skills and have a strong track record, with my students regularly exceeding their target grades and going on to great colleges and universities.
I am experienced with entrance exams (11+, ISEB, UkiSet) for various schools and institutions, and have developed a series of lessons specifically aimed at improving confidence for young students working towards those exams, giving them the skills they need to succeed.
Having tutored for over seven years, I have learnt the value of a structured approach to teaching. My lessons are always interactive and customised to the student's needs, strengths and weaknesses. My teaching resources and materials are uniquely designed to engage students' interests while, at the same time, preparing them specifically towards their exams and assessments.
One of the most important aspects of tutoring is understanding the specific needs of the student. Therefore, no two lessons I teach are exactly the same. In my first lesson with a new student, I try to gauge their current understanding. In subsequent lessons, we aim to build a solid foundation of conceptual knowledge, essay skills and exam technique. To achieve this, I use specific activities, for example, essay planing exercises, memory techniques and interactive quizzes. As lessons progress, we consolidate the knowledge and techniques learnt in previous lessons, so that they become ingrained in the student's understanding.
I consider myself a patient, friendly and highly enthusiastic tutor. I seek to inspire students through my own passion for the subjects I teach, while retaining a specific focus on pedagogical techniques. Experience has taught me that students become more engaged, motivated and confident in their subjects as they see improvements in their grades.
