I have 12 years' of teaching on LLB, LLM and LPC programmes on a variety of modules including Public Law, EU Law, Equity/Trusts, Competition Law, Company Law & others listed below. I also teach politics and government studies as well as business A-Level
My teaching experience included teaching at the universities of Warwick, UCL, Stirling, Buckingham and Dundee. I also taught on the LPC at BPP in London.
I was a careers tutor at three of these institutions where I helped mentor students who were applying for internships and training contracts.
I spent the first 10 years of my professional career after studying law at UCL and the College of Europe in Bruges working in law firms and in-house in the City of London and worked independently for investment firms and NGOs.
I left academia recently to take up a position as senior lawyer in a UK regulator but as much as I love this new job I miss teaching, hence why I have joined this site.
I have led modules on the following core LLB modules and can teach the SQE versions:
Equity/Trusts
EU law
Land Law
Public law
Contract Law
On the LLB and LLM I have led modules on:
Company Law
Competition Law
M&A
WTO Law
Law of Marine Resources
Employment Law
A-Level:
-Law
-Gov & politics
-Business Studies
I have also supervised LLB and LLM dissertations on all the above (except contract law) and I have practiced in WTO/PIL and competition law.
I also taught BLP on the LPC (now an SQE subject)
I have been nominated for numerous student-led teaching awards including 'best feedback', 'most inspiring teaching' and 'best innovation' and 'best support in an online environment' (the last one I was nominated for during the pandemic, which I was particularly proud about).
As you can see, I have a very diverse teaching experience across many undergraduate and postgraduate as well as vocational. modules.
My approach is to adapt my teaching to a student's needs:
Some students want something explained in a different way to how things have already been explained to them. Others have specific questions on specific topics within a module. Some have a mix of these queries.
Others may come with past exam questions they want to go through. Alternatively, or in addition, I am happy to develop exam-style questions to suit the module the student is following at their university.
Others are struggling with a whole module and want me to work with them alongside their university module. This happens a fair amount of the time for completely understandable reasons: poor teaching at the university or the style of teaching not gelling with the student. Universities are, sadly, under-staffed and lecturers over-worked so this is not surprising.
The key thing in all of the help I can give is to adapt what I am teaching to the curriculum and learning outcomes of the university the student is attending.
I can also help with general study techniques, which is often a root cause of students not performing as they wish. As someone who has worked in universities for over 12 years, I have pretty much seen all manner of challenges that student face in how they organise themselves and how they approach studies alongside other demands for their time.
I offer a free initial online session where we can explore how I can help you.
