Private Maths Tutor in Kensington

I am Sam, a former French 2017 graduate from ENSTA ParisTech in engineering. I also did " Classes préparatoires aux Grande Ecoles - MPSI / MP* " at Lycée Condorcet in France and I am also a former exchange student at Cambridge University where I studied applied mathematics in biology.
I previously worked as a M&A Junior banker and also in financial auditing. Currently, I have been working as a Management Consultant in London for a year and a half with a focus on Capital markets assignments.

I love mathematics and I also love passing my knowledge to the younger generation to help them reach any of their goals. Indeed, education is one of the main key to success and I'd like to contribute to the success of the younger generation by teaching them Mathematics, a powerful knowledge which helps students to sharpen their brain, think logically and which has application in plenty of jobs. Therefore, I would like to get back to teaching to A-level equivalent students, which I used to do during my 5-year engineering course to finance my studies.

Languages: Fluent in French, English and Tamil
Areas of Expertise: Mathematics and Physics

Tutoring Experience

I have around 5 years of teaching experience in Maths, Physics and Chemistry for around 12-15 students in total (around 2-3 students a year). I started when I was 18 years old until I move to London for my job in April 2017.

Type of students I had in my five year experience:
- A-level equivalent students (Seconde générale, Premiere ES / S and Terminale ES / S in France)
- 3 university students seeking a BSc in Mathematics

Tutoring Approach

I do usually operate with sessions of 2-3 hours, not more, not less.
It is important that the student is captivated and focused during the whole session to make the most of it, but it is also important to have time to tackle all the aspects the student is studying.

I usually spend the first 30 minutes / 1 hour (depending if it is a 2h or a 3h session) going over the questions the student has regarding the lessons. I will take the opportunity during that time to clear any doubts the student has and to give him more context regarding the tackled issues.

Then I move to concrete examples in order to apply the acquired knowledge
I usually try to let the student solve all the exercises by himself because it is the best way to learn, but I also intervene very often to give hints so the student can solve the exercise.
My aim during my session is for the student to fully understand the tackled issues but also to do together, during the session, all the possible exercises for the student not to have any surprise at exams.

Someone that enjoys something, will always be good at it.
Therefore, I always make sure my students enjoy their lessons by being the funny person I am or by adapting my lessons to the profile of the student. Plus, I always make comparison to the professional world so the students understand the impact and use of mathematics in real life rather than in education only.
