Maths tutor for A-Level and above. I am also able to provide tutoring for higher-level qualifications such as AEA and STEP. I have a PhD in pure mathematics from the University of Sheffield, as well as a BA (First) and MMath (Distinction) in maths from the University of Cambridge.

My focus is on asking you questions to motivate ideas and ensure your understanding. I enjoy finding creative and personalised ways to explain things.

I am enthusiastic and passionate, but also patient. I find it incredibly rewarding to enable my students to progress and reach their goals.

I take a tailored approach to tutoring, adapting both style and material to your individual needs, interests and aspirations.

Tutoring Experience

I am a trained research-level mathematician with 3½ years experience teaching undergraduate maths at the University of Sheffield on both an individual basis and to classes of up to 30 students. I have also tutored KS2 maths on a one-to-one basis.

I'm currently available to teach A-Level Maths and A-Level Further Maths (all modules), as well as maths admissions tests for Cambridge (STEP) and Oxford.

Tutoring Approach

For me, teaching maths is not just about passing on knowledge to you. It is about showing you how and why things work, and using questions to test your understanding.

I tailor my sessions based on what you need and what you aim to achieve. To do this, I begin by setting you some questions so we can identify what you’re good at, and what I can help you with in terms of your:
(1) knowledge and understanding of the concepts.
(2) ability to answer questions using the concepts.
(3) exam technique.

The key to learning for exams is to realise that you need (1) before you can work on (2), and you need (2) before you can work on (3), so this is how I prioritise my teaching.

My strength is in finding interesting real-life examples to demonstrate abstract concepts in maths. I tutor with a focus on showing you why the ideas are useful, and how they might relate to things you already know about.

Mathematical ideas are often hard, but with my patience and encouragement I can get you to where you want to be.
