Private Maths and English Tuition in Dereham

Hi, I am Sammy - a 30 year old female with a degree in Primary education with a specialism in English.

I work part time so my availability is on Thursday and Fridays although weekends could be a possibility too.

I have achieved grade 6 in Electronic keyboard and I also play the flute, piano and the ukulele for leisure too.

(Qualification certificates can be made available on request).

Tutoring Experience

I have 8 years experience of teaching within primary school settings. This has mostly been in KS2 but I do have some experience teaching phonics in KS1 too.

I currently work part time at a local primary school teaching Year 6 and I am whole school music lead; responsible for the teaching of music to all year groups.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that school and learning should be a joy, and I do my best to make tutoring fun for everyone! I prefer to tutor students in their own home, as I find they are most comfortable and at ease there.

Parents are welcome to sit in on the session if they wish, but I generally find the student is more engaged in their learning if we are alone (although I always insist that a parent or carer is within "calling distance" if needed).
Parents are always encouraged to spend a few moments with the student and myself at the end of a session to discuss the work covered that session, what will come next, and to raise any questions or comments.

We will spend the first lesson or two, getting to know each other, identifying what the struggles are, and then working together to devise an action plan to get over that hurdle (I will ask that the parent join us for this final step - especially for a younger child).
We will use a range of strategies to move the students skills on; games, challenges, problem solving, and real life scenarios.
I'm also extremely flexible. If there is something that has come up that week at school, that the student has struggled with, let me know! We can go over it together! A huge part of tutoring is being responsive to needs as and when they arise!

If you would like to know more about how I run my tutoring system, please contact me.

Thank you for reading.
