Private Maths and Economics Tuition in Wallingford

I completed my final year of school in 2024, and during my time at school, I achieved 10 grade 9s at GCSE, and straight A*s at A level, achieving 93% in economics, and 97% in maths. I am taking a gap year to reapply to the university of Oxford for economics and management. During my gap year, I want to use my extra free time to help other students achieve top grades. I was captain of my school’s first 11 football team in my final year at the school, leading the team to an unbeaten season for the first time in 12 years. My responsibilities have ranged from leading training sessions for a whole year group, to half time and pre-game talks with my team. Through these unique experiences, I have learnt to be motivational and constructive within a team, whilst also offering a leadership role, and making sure everyone in my team knows what is expected of them, and what needs to be done.

Tutoring Experience

I worked as a GCSE maths tutor at my secondary school, whilst I was in sixth form, helping children in the local community excel in exam settings. Those who ‘couldn’t’ wrap their heads around maths in particular found my help extremely motivating, and many achieved top grades themselves, exceeding their own expectations, and overcoming the mental blocks that often come with intimidating topics.
I was also an academic coach, which involved giving disadvantaged children the tools to help them become more teachable and attentive in lessons. The point of our role was not to give them answers, but to help them find the answers themselves, through communication and effective listening skills.
I received a distinction in an ASDAN leadership course which introduced me to being part of a team, and directing people in a constructive, progressive manner. I also learnt how to build professional relationships with members of a group where we could support each other and improve each other’s experiences within a formal and informal environment.

Tutoring Approach

I will focus on topics that students find difficult, to personalise the lessons to help them. We will work until they have mastered the topics one by one, so that they feel comfortable with any exam questions that could possibly be thrown at them. I will encourage them not to be thrown off by the topics that may intimidate them, and there will always be a running theme of exam technique practice, to help students master their subject.
