Hello! I am Sarah and I am passionate about supporting children with and without learning disabilities to develop their love of learning. I am currently working as a Y1 teacher and am qualified with QTS. I am also a fully qualified Montessori Teacher and hold an MA in Museums and Galleries in Education and I have UK and international teaching experience.
I love the arts, including singing and playing instruments.
I have been completing my Schools Direct Primary Teacher Training in a Special Educational Needs School, as well as a term in a Key Stage One class.
Experience includes:
- 2+ years experience teaching children in a mainstream Austrian Primary School in Vienna.
- 5+ years experience teaching in a Montessori Kindergarten. I have many years experience tutoring in the UK and Austria.
- 5 years experience working in the Learning Department of the Natural History Museum, London.
- 2 years experience as a freelancer, leading heritage, music and story telling sessions for children and adults with learning disabilities.
- 2 years experience of working as a learning support assistant in a London Primary School.
I have an inclusive approach to teaching and believe in the potential of all children. I am passionate about making learning accessible and enjoyable to all. When teaching, I begin by getting to know the child and assessing the child's prior knowledge. I believe that it is important to continually check the child's understanding as I progresses with the tutoring. Often, if the child is struggling with a concept then my teaching will take the form of returning to the basic principle that underlies that concept. I often use concrete activities that the child can relate to and individualise each session to draw upon the child's interests. I am very patient and creative in the way that I work.
I am happy to tutor children who are in a mainstream setting, as well as children who are home educated and other alternative settings.
I have extensive experience of using previously prepared lesson plans as well as developing my own lesson plans. I draw on a variety of resources and use the National Curriculum as a basis for developing my own materials and activities.
