Now retired from full-time classroom teaching, I am thoroughly enjoying my work as a private tutor in the Marple area.
Over the years, I have taught learners of all ages and abilities. My fascination for language and logic combined with my skills of analysis, creativity and communication make me an excellent teacher of French, German and Maths.
With an BA Honours degree in Modern Foreign languages, two years of living and working in Europe and decades of ongoing study, I am a fluent speaker of French and German. In addition to this, my work as Head of Learning Support in two different schools over fourteen years has given me extensive experience and expertise in teaching and supporting children with a range of diverse educational needs. For eight years, I taught Maths, English and Study Skills to mixed-ability groups of pupils aged 11 to 14 and supported individuals with mental health problems impacting their ability to access the curriculum.

Tutoring Approach

Having worked with thousands of pupils, I know how to identify gaps in knowledge and skill and build confidence in even the most reluctant learners. The beauty of one-to-one tuition is that I can tailor my teaching to the precise needs, learning speed and interests of the individual.
I am particularly skilled in explaining difficult concepts in an accessible way and in devising creative strategies to support learning and memory. I assume nothing and am always ready to go back to basics when needed.
