I have been teaching and tutoring Maths for 20 years, aiming to build confidence as well as understanding. I am a mother of 20-something boys and teaching has helped me be a better mother, and being a mother has helped me be a better teacher.
I’m an active church member and not quite so active cyclist!
I have had 15 years teaching Maths up to and including A Level in a ‘top ten’ private school.
I have also privately tutored for the last ten or so years, relying only on word of mouth recommendation. I have now recently moved out from my original area.
Coming to teaching after a career in banking has meant that I, too, have had to see the material afresh. This has meant that I do possess a good insight into where pupils struggle.
I have years of experience in teaching at an academically strong school and so have honed insightful ways of explaining concepts. Frequently I have been told “ I wish my teacher had explained it like that”.
Pupils have found me to be a strong encourager and confidence-giver.
So, in short, it’s about building belief as well as finding the right words to explain the maths, so that comprehension can be maintained.
