Private Online Maths and English Tutor

I am a primary teacher who has worked both in the UK and internationally. I love seeing the progress children make and, with tuition for children who are achieving below the expectations for their age, confidence is key and it is my main aim to improve children's confidence in themselves in order that they can achieve their best. For other students, they thrive off being extended and challenged in their learning - I pride myself on communication with parents and, where relevant, other teachers in order to determine the best approach for each individual student's education and progress. I have received lovely feedback from the parents of the children I tutor.

Tutoring Experience

With 17 years' experience, I tutor maths and English to children working at KS1 and KS2 level (primary school). I currently work in a UK primary school and have been tutoring my whole career alongside classroom teaching. As a result, I am up to date with the national curriculum and expectations for SATs. I have also worked with children who are preparing for the 11+ exams and who have succeeded in obtaining places.

Tutoring Approach

Each lesson I begin with a 'warm up' activity, which will meet the child's needs in a number of ways (such as finding out what they have found easy and difficult in school, re-capping what we learnt in previous lessons or practicing a skill that will aid them in what we are covering in the upcoming lesson). I then break the rest of the lesson down into several activities. I give the children instant feedback on how they are doing, ensuring lots of positivity. I make it really clear as to how they can improve and then always plan to act on this in future lessons and re-visit areas where they need more practice. I would say my method is 'little and often' in order to retain what is taught. Each lesson is individually tailored to the needs of the child - I don't just work my way through a program.
