Online Maths and English Tuition

I was awarded a first class honours in Modern Languages at the university of Cambridge. Having achieved three A*s in my A-levels and straight A*s in my GCSEs, I am in a good position to offer my online tutoring services to students preparing for either of these exams. I can also help those looking to get ahead going into the next academic year, or to consolidate their class work from last year. I am passionate about teaching, and am pursuing it as a future full-time career.

Tutoring Experience

As well as spending 6 months teaching English to students off all ages in Uruguay, I have 5 years of experience in tutoring students for GCSEs, A levels and university applications. All of my students have been able to gain an A* or an A following my services even when predicted a B or C by their schools. Out of these, 80% have gained an A*. I have also been able to help students with their personal statements, interview techniques and written assessments. All of my students have gained offers from Russel Group Universities or Oxbridge.

Tutoring Approach

Teaching languages requires a different kind of skill that school teachers often find difficult to apply in a classroom setting. Therefore, various students often struggle to reach their full potential in language learning, as they cannot receive the individual attention they require. The key to language learning is to acquire a strong understanding of the basics and then to then build up gradually, whilst constantly revisiting the basics in order that they become second nature to the student. I therefore design my teaching to fill in each gap of knowledge of the student as well as constantly informally testing what has already been learnt. I also understand that making mistakes can affect the student's confidence in a negative way, and therefore help them understand that errors are the most common aspect of language learning. I will keep revisiting the errors they make in order that they do not make them again. In such a way, what they learn will soon become second nature, so when going into an exam their nervousness will not be able to take over. I also aim to make the sessions fun by planning something slightly different for each week in order to avoid monotony. When a student is bored, they are much less likely to remember what has been taught.
Having recently gone through these exams myself, I understand the requirements very well, and can offer a plethora of tips and methods for both memorising vocabulary and building up a toolkit that can be used and adapted to suit any circumstance.
