Maths and English Tutoring in Stanmore

About me: I am an undergraduate student at The University Of Nottingham, currently studying Biochemistry with molecular medicine. Biology is one of my deepest passions, however, I do enjoy chemistry just as much, as the world of science has kept me fascinated from an early age. My previous experience as a tutor has allowed me to hone my teaching and communication skills; and consequently helped me aid the learning of younger pupils effectively. I believe that I am friendly, enthusiastic and a patient teacher and will ensure my sessions will be fun and engaging. The sessions: Studying for exams can be hard and stressful for any level of student, my aim is to help you with my unique teaching methods to allow you to grasp difficult concepts quickly. I believe learning should be fun and exciting, I will make my sessions as interesting as possible with the use of diagrams and sharing some of my quirky analogies I used while revising which I'm sure you won't forget. Exam practice is key to achieve the highest grades possible; understanding what examiners expect and what each question is asking you to do, will eventually build up your confidence in tackling those hard and long exam question worth several marks. By going through various different exam questions you will eventually feel more calm under exam pressure and be able to gain all the marks by understanding the key points. If by the end of any tutorial you are still struggling on aspects we covered, I will be more than happy to provide extra resources which you can access in your own time to help iron out any problems. What next? I am flexible with my session timings and will most likely be able to fit you in at anytime you are available. If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to get into contact with me through email or book a session and we can schedule sessions around your availability. Look forward to meeting you!

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring for 3 years now and various different companies, teaching children of different ages and academics, I have had extensive previous work experience tutoring Alevel and GCSE students mainly who have gone on to achieve amazing grades in their final exams.

Tutoring Approach

Dependent on the work that I am doing, I sometimes like to incorporate interactive learning when I am studying. For example, when studying for a subject in which I have to remember a lot of facts, I would play a game where I would have to jot down as many relevant facts as possible in a given time frame without looking at my notes. These types of activities would essentially stimulate my mind and get me thinking, as opposed to the standard method of reading and memorizing from a textbook.

I believe a tutor’s role is so much more than just teaching a subject to a student. A tutor has the potential to have a massive influence on someone’s life. It is about being there to support the student in the work that they carry out but also care for their development. A good tutor should tailor their teaching methods to each individual’s attitude to learning and incorporate methods, which will have a significant impact on the student’s approach to education. The tutor should be a catalyst to help the student’s become more intellectually curious and have a desire to learn. The tutor should help increase their self-confidence which maybe be overshadowed in a classroom full of their peers. It’s important to allow them to be more enthusiastic towards their own education enabling them to excel in those subjects.
