I am a very experienced teacher of Mathematics and Examiner. I believe that everyone is capable of learning mathematics if the concepts and skills are shared in the appropriate way and practiced. I am friendly and believe that learning should be fun.

Teaching is the best career and I have loved working in a variety of schools in the South West of England.

I currently teach full time so I am only able to offer tuition in students homes for those in Penzance and Hayle areas. Otherwise students can come to me or we can work online or we can consider small group sessions to make the additional travelling worthwhile.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching for over twenty years and have been highly successful with students from all backgrounds and from ages 10 to 17. I have always been viewed as an excellent teacher and I am also a Local Leader of Maths Education for the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics(NCETM). This role involves me advising maths teachers in other schools.

I have also tutored individuals and small groups successfully for over ten years.

I am also an examiner and mark GCSE papers every summer. This gives me a much deeper appreciation of how students should respond to questions and the common mistakes students make. I teach students how to use the correct exam techniques and train them not to make the mistakes that other students do.

Tutoring Approach

I use a variety of teaching methods to suit the needs of my learners. When necessary I will use diagrams and models to help students to understand new concepts and I also believe it is important to demonstrate with my students the links that there are through the whole curriculum. This interleaving of previous learning or a glimpse of what comes next helps learners to understand their current learning and make sense of where it fits into their wider learning.

I plan a bespoke programme of sessions for each of my tutees to ensure the subject material is appropriate to their individual needs and challenging. Therefore at the end of each session they feel that they have achieved something and are more confident than before.
