Belfast/Newtownabbey based
Hi! I’m an English student at Queen’s University Belfast and I’m currently looking to help school pupils with their learning. I’m very passionate about English, as well as Classical Civilisation, and having been an A-grade student all my life, I can pass on the skills needed to be a top-grade student (while also pass on my passion for the subject!). I want to help as many people as I can, I care deeply about making a difference to people’s lives, and if I can be the positive influence in your child’s academic development, then that’s exactly what I’m aiming for! Once I graduate from university with an English degree, I will pursue a Postgraduate Certificate in English, meaning that I’ll take every tutoring session seriously and do my utmost best to help your child achieve their goals at their own pace. We can do this together!
My teaching approach in tutoring will be tailored to the needs and learning style of each individual student.
Assessment: Start by assessing the student's current knowledge and understanding of the subject. This will help me identify areas where they need the most help.
Personalized Learning: I will adapt my teaching methods to each student's learning style and pace. Some students may benefit from visual aids, while others may prefer hands-on activities or verbal explanations.
Clear Communication: Clearly explain concepts and provide examples to illustrate difficult ideas. Encourage students to ask questions and seek clarification when needed.
Positive Reinforcement: Offer praise and positive reinforcement to boost the student's confidence and motivation. Celebrate their successes, no matter how small.
Patience: Be patient and understanding. Learning can be challenging, and students may struggle with certain concepts. Provide support and encouragement.
Active Engagement: Keep the student actively engaged in the learning process. Ask open-ended questions, encourage discussions, and involve them in problem-solving.
Practice and Application: Provide opportunities for the student to practice what they've learned. Assign homework or practice exercises to reinforce concepts.
Feedback: Give constructive feedback on the student's progress. Point out areas of improvement and provide guidance on how to address weaknesses.
Goal Setting: Set clear learning goals with the student. Track progress toward these goals and celebrate achievements along the way.
Empathy: Understand the challenges and pressures that students may be facing, and be empathetic and supportive.
