I am a Teach First qualified secondary maths teacher with 4 years experience, teaching and tutoring students from year 7 to GCSE. I will be leaving teaching at the end of this academic year to complete a Masters in another passion of mine, Musical Theatre, but will be continuing to tutor whilst I study. I am a creative and enthusiastic teacher, with a passion for helping students understand the fundamental building blocks of mathematics and build the resilience required to problem solve.
I have A Levels in Maths, Biology and Chemistry. I graduated from Swansea University in 2018 with a 2:1 in Marine Biology. I trained to teach through the Teach First scheme and graduated from Birmingham City University in 2021 with a PGDE in Mathematics Education with Leadership in Learning. I have been teaching maths in secondary schools for the past 4 years. I also have experience in tutoring for end of year 6 SATs.
I am a creative and enthusiastic teacher with a passion for building pupils resilience and problem solving skills. A fundamental part of my teaching approach is retrieval. I will begin each session by retrieving information from a previous session and dealing with misconceptions. I will also ensure that I go through strong worked examples each session so that the students have examples that they can use to complete practice on their own. Due to my teaching experience, I have a tried and tested collection of resources for a variety of topics. I also encourage students to complete their own independent learning between sessions. I will ask the students to show me some of the work from their lessons in school so that I am working cohesively with the information provided by their teacher. I am also happy to support with any homework provided by the student's teacher.
