I am currently working as an assistant chemistry technician at the university of Kent in the school of physical sciences. I received a bachelors degree in bioscience with a focus on biochemistry. Currently, I am studying a masters degree in analytical chemistry and measurement science.
Although my undergraduate degree is in bioscience, I have a deep passion for other subject areas such as physics and maths. I am a casual learner of physical theories, principles and mathematical concepts. To deepen my understanding, I have undertaken an advance math's course to further develop my knowledge and practical understanding. Basically, I am a little bit of a nerd.
I aspire to learn more but at the same time, I wish to pass on knowledge and provide a framework for others to understand and cultivate their own thought processes. This is the reason why I have decided to become a tutor as I believe that I can provide a more comprehensive teaching approach and I deeply enjoy the process of teaching.
As a chemistry technician, I provide supportive teaching to undergraduate students in chemistry. I assist students in experimental work by helping them examine methodology, understand concepts and relate their work to underlying theory. This gives them a deeper grasp of the course module and the subject field that prepares them for future encounters within the workplace and beyond.
In addition to supportive teaching, I provided tutoring to fellow students during my undergraduate years by explaining difficult to grasp topics and practicing past paper questions, while making sure that my explanations are catered to their level of understanding.
My approach to teaching involves developing a rapport with my students so that they can feel relaxed and view the tutoring session as more of a discussion session on the topic. I first try to understand what every student expects from me and I try my best to meet those expectations. I believe the best way to teach a person is by simply breaking down the problem into smaller components and by focusing on each problem step by step. In addition, analogies increase the level of comprehension of a topic by making it more relatable. I will strive to carefully understand where a person is lacking in knowledge and fill that gap with thought provoking questions and thought experiments.
