I am an experienced class teacher who is passionate about tutoring. By building a positive relationship with pupils, I motivate them to make accelerated progress in their subjects and develop confidence in their skills. I have extensive experience with the 7+, 9+ and 11+ exam preparation process and a proven track record of helping pupils gain entrance into independent schools in the Dulwich area. I listen carefully to parents' goals, planning my sessions thoughtfully in accordance with each child's needs. As an English graduate, I am passionate about developing a love of reading and writing in my pupils and I use a range of strategies to stretch and challenge pupils of all abilities.
As a primary school teacher, I have extensive experience teaching across a range of year groups. Having worked in schools since 2013, I have an in-depth understanding of the National Curriculum and outstanding subject knowledge. I have a sound understanding of the entrance requirements of various independent schools in the Dulwich area and I work tirelessly to support my pupils in achieving their goals. Having taught Year 6 for several years, I am well-placed to support pupils in the run up to SATS, giving them a strong base in preparation for secondary school. I enjoy tutoring both KS1 and KS2 children and have taught phonics, early reading and penmanship to my younger (Year 1 and Year 2) tutees.
I start by building a positive, warm rapport with my students. By getting to know them as individuals, I create a safe space, enabling them to take risks, ask questions and engage with the learning with curiosity and interest. In maths, I use a range of resources and strategies which enable children to develop a deep conceptual understanding of the subject. Over the years, I have attended a plethora of training courses in maths and am well-versed with the Singapore maths method and the NCETM scheme of work - both aimed at helping children to develop mastery in the subject. In English, I use high quality texts as a springboard for creating writing opportunities that have a real purpose. My chosen tests are both ambitious and inclusive, enabling pupils to broaden their vocabulary, hone their reading comprehension skills and deepen their understanding of the wider world.
