I graduated from the University of Nottingham studying Mathematics. I am a freelance Mathematics Tutor and I have been working constantly for the past five years with both GCSE and A Level students.
I am currently only doing classes. I refer this because I am able to record lessons and send them over to my students to review if they need.
I have been tutoring for nearly 10 years in both A Level and GCSE Mathematics. I work with a range of clients from private to local authority pupils; teaching pupils who want to improve their grade or being the only source of teaching for some pupils.
2024: All three of my pupils did incredibly well. One student achieved a grade 8, we worked together for two years and that was an improvement from a grade 6. Another pupil achieved a grade 7, huge improvement from a grade 4/5. My final student achieved a grade 5 in their Foundation paper. All my lessons were taught online, as I was on tour.
2021: One of my students achieved an A grade in their Maths A level. A second student has come out of their first year maths with a predicted A grade, an improvement from a C grade. These classes were all taught online.
2020: Unfortunately due to current circumstances, my students are unable to sit their papers. So these are based on their most recent mock exams in December. One student achieved a Grade 6, an improvement from a Grade 4. The second achieved a Grade 6 and improvement from a Grade 5. If they had sat their exams, we would usually assume a whole grade improvement between now and May/June.
2019: One of my GCSE students achieved a Grade 7 improved from a Grade 5. Another one of my students achieved a Grade 8, an improvement from a Grade 7. My A Level student achieved a B a huge improvement from the D grade they were working on earlier in the year.
2018: For my GCSE's I had two pupils gain their desired Grade 7, an improvement from Grade 5's and 6's. My A Levels also did well, one achieved an A, an improvement from a B. My second achieved a B which was a vast improvement from their D they achieved the year before.
2017: One pupil achieved a Grade 9 in GCSE. Both my A Level students achieved A grades.
2016: One of my students achieved a C Grade in their Foundation paper a huge improvement, when they were working on an F Grade. A Level student achieved an A grade, an improvement from a C. Second A Level Students achieved a B, and improvement from a D grade.
I find getting to know what my students want being the best thing. Creating a relaxed environment is very important for me personally, as it takes away the pressure from my pupils having to understand a concept immediately and getting answers right straight away. Instead it gives them the chance to take risks in answering questions and to understand why that particular method doesn't work or does work.
My lessons consist of theory, examples and worked questions. I give my students homework at the end of every lesson, however I also expect my students to do extra work on top of that- as there are plenty of resources online for them to be able to find and practise questions. I make it very clear that Maths is a subject that constantly needs to be practised, you can understand a topic quickly, however if you do not practise the methods they can go just as quickly and you will see very limited improvement.
