Hello! My name is Tess and I am a qualified primary school teacher, having taken a school direct route and studying for my PGCE simultaneously. I have a First Class Bachelors Degree in History and Politics, as well as a Master’s Degree in Security Studies. I have a great love of learning which I enjoy sharing with my pupils. In spare time I enjoy reading, baking and hiking. I am a big fan of having a sense of humour, and I like to try and make learning as fun and engaging as possible.
After graduating university with my masters degree I worked as a teaching assistant for a year. Whilst in this role I began regularly covering classes during PPA time, which led me to decide to train to be a qualified teacher. My training year consisted of a School Centred Initial Teacher Training course, where I spent a full academic year in two different schools, teaching every day. I learnt from outstanding teachers and had a weekly training session off site where I furthered and deepened aspects of my teaching. Alongside this I chose to complete a PGCE, spending sessions at University learning theoretical frameworks around teaching, learning and behaviour. Once I had completed my qualifications, I was lucky enough to move to the outskirts of the Cotswolds where I taught a Year 4 class. I have since become a full time tutor and have 3 years of tutoring experience, working with pupils from EYFS to A-Level.
I believe learning should be fun, interactive and accessible. I take a methodical approach to learning, using smaller building blocks to construct knowledge that can then be applied to wider challenges. I try and incorporate real life contexts into learning as much as possible.
