I am a very caring, friendly, experienced and patient tutor/teacher who loves seeing progress in pupils. Over the last decade I have had the opportunity to also host and teach international pupils in my own home which has been very enjoyable. I enjoy walks in the countryside with my Boxer dog. I also enjoy reading, visiting places of interest, theatre and swimming. I firmly believe that one to one tuition by a highly experienced tutor can immensely help any student whether they are struggling or not.
I have additional qualifications which I believe are beneficial to teaching. These are a counselling certificate, safeguarding children certificate, SCIP training and prevent awareness training. I also have a TEFL qualification allowing me to teach international pupils of all ages in my own home throughout the summer holidays.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching as a private tutor in the private education sector independently and through agencies across Hampshire for over twenty years. I tutor full time and run Ignite Tuition. Therefore, unlike many teachers who do a few private lessons here and there, I am fully committed and can spend all of my time preparing lessons and focusing on my private students. I have taught children online and in person all over the world ranging from pupils who are being home schooled, pupils who need some one to one tuition, group tuition, taught pupils who are out of mainstream education in a school inclusion unit, helped to run successful revision courses through an agency and prepared pupils for exams such as Common Entrance, iGCSE, GCSE's and SAT's (all of which I have had successful results with and have kept a record of.)
I have experience of working with several learning difficulties such as dyspraxia, dyslexia, autism and ADHD as well as behavioural problems.
I have taught in several schools across Hampshire and other areas of the country and continue to work in several local secondary schools as part of
The National Tutoring Programme. I am extremely familiar with The National Curriculum, different syllabuses and the variety of examination boards that schools use and stick to following these. I have a high success rate with SAT’s and GCSE’s and a wealth of knowledge, experience and techniques to help every individual get those all important grades that they need and long for. I’m all for positive feedback and thinking and lots of praise and encouragement to boost confidence levels.

Tutoring Approach

I have a firm, fun but fair approach to tuition and encourage pupils to work to the best of their ability through praise and reward. I always follow up lessons with advise on what areas need to be improved upon, followed by a positive and encouraging remark about the pupil's work so that confidence is not lost.
I enjoy providing parents with continual progress reports after each session and offer advise as and when it is needed. I am happy to provide references on request.
I always offer an initial assessment before sessions commence so that I can get a general idea of how I can help the student, and for the student to see whether they like my teaching style. After the assessment, lessons are carefully planned and prepared to meet each individual's needs/requirements. Continual support via e mail is offered (especially for those special cases like exam times, which as we all know can be very stressful for the parent and the student.)
