I have a passion for helping students who have been intimidated by Science and don't feel like they 'naturally get it'. I have worked in a wide array of schools utilising a range of teaching strategies, from teaching English and Science in high schools in China and South Korea, to teaching GCSE Science and A level Biology in the 5th highest scoring school in England, based on progress made by students.
I have been a deputy head of sixth form, head of year 13 and head of careers provision in a large comprehensive secondary school. I have helped a range of students as UCAS coordinator get into their university of choice.
I trained as a Science teacher in an inner city London school, where I spent 9 years teaching GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics and A-level Biology.
I have taught AQA, OCR (A) and Edexcel (A) A level Biology specifications. I have also taught GCSE (AQA) Trilogy Biology and GCSE (AQA) Combined Science.
Prior to gaining my PGCE in London (which was graded at distinction), I lived in China and South Korea, teaching English (and some Science) for 3 years.
Currently I am Head of Biology at a large sixth form college, teaching exclusively A-level Biology and BTEC Applied Science.
I have a calm, formulaic approach where I believe teacher explanations are like gold. I ensure the basic knowledge is embedded and consolidated before pushing through with exam questions. Interleaving of prior knowledge is fundamental to ensuring core principles are not lost. Through this process, confidence can be built and students feel the benefits of success!
