English Lessons in Hove

I am an enthusiastic, proactive, and friendly English teacher with experience working with students from a wide range of nationalities and cultural backgrounds. With a First-Class degree in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh and a PGDE from Teach First, I bring both subject expertise and a commitment to inclusive, engaging education. I thrive in diverse environments and aim to make every student feel confident, supported, and inspired in their learning.

Tutoring Experience

I have five years of classroom experience, teaching Key Stages 3 and 4 in both the UK and the UAE. I am familiar with both AQA and Edexcel content. At The St Leonards Academy through Teach First, I taught Years 7–11 while completing my PGDE, simultaneously leading academic and pastoral interventions. At Jebel Ali School in Dubai, I continued to develop curriculum materials and assessment strategies used department-wide whilst having sole responsibility for GCSE classes. I’ve led targeted reading interventions and coached other teachers in behaviour management. My teaching consistently promotes literacy, metacognitive strategies, and high achievement for all learners. Working as Deputy Head of Year 11 has allowed me to understand the wide range of strategies that can allow students approaching examinations to feel confident and secure in their learning.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring approach is student-centered, structured, and responsive. I believe in building strong rapport and creating a safe, encouraging space where students feel comfortable to ask questions and take academic risks. I tailor sessions to each learner’s needs, using clear explanations, modelling, and engaging resources to boost confidence and skills. I aim to make English enjoyable and accessible, whether it’s tackling tricky exam questions, improving analytical writing, or deepening a love of literature. I am confident in adapting my teaching to suit any ability level.
