Online Maths and Physics Teacher

(Current vacant slots are available 4 to 5 Monday evenings and 4 to 5 Wednesday evenings.)

Hi, I'm Tom (MSci, PGCE), a full-time tutor and former Secondary School Science teacher with full Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with Maths and Science specialism.

I am a dedicated and hard-working tutor who strives to provide top quality services for students from all backgrounds and I am committed to catering for SEN, EAL and students who receive their schooling from home or who have other alternative arrangements.

I stick by my tutees and provide session reminders, summaries, worksheets, written and verbal feedback, exams coaching, ongoing email correspondence and general support to help with confidence-building and personal development. My approach is personalised to the individual whilst including tried-and-true strategies to ensure that the essential curriculum content is covered and there are no surprises come exam season.

I offer tutoring services for GCSE Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths as well as A-Level Chemistry. I also provide services to help young people with CV, personal statement and cover letter writing as well as interview preparation, practice interviews and more (professional skills) as well as guidance on organisation, revision strategies and time management (study skills).

I aim to create a good relationships with my students and provide productive and enjoyable sessions that help to achieve goals and create a positive outlook to those next steps, whatever they may be.

Tutoring Experience

I have secondary school teaching experience (ages 11-18) as a teacher of Science as well as pastoral tutor.

As a teacher of Science I have experience with lesson planning, formative and summative assessment, curriculum/specification implementation, teaching pedagogy targeted to differing needs and catering for natural variation in learning style. My pastoral responsibilities have given me the opportunity to motivate and enthuse students as they progress through education, helping with organisation, time-management and personal development.

I have tutored students successfully through their GCSEs and A-Levels as an online tutor and have a proven track-record of success in this regard. As a now full-time tutor I work to bring the very best service for all of my students.

Tutoring Approach

Studying outside of school can often be daunting for children and parents alike. How can we help young learners to study outside of school in an efficient and effective way, leaving them with enough time to relax and “recharge”? I aim to help by boosting subject knowledge, confidence and comfortability with the routines of studying, prioritising individual needs so that study time is put to best use.

I make use of a digital whiteboard setup along with helpful PowerPoint slides to describe and explain concepts in the same way as would be done if the student were in the school classroom. I provide resources, worksheets, past paper questions and similar materials to aid in tuition delivery and welcome arrangements where students send in completed work for marking and feedback. My approach is flexible and I focus on interacting at the right level and in the right manner with the learner to allow for helpful and positive communication from the start with lessons planned and tailored to specific needs. I will also use my knowledge of the national curriculum, advice from exam boards and my own experience to ensure that the learner receives up-to-date and relevant information to avoid surprises during exams.

Some students like to email regularly with updates, others like to request extension sheets to complete and there are a whole host of different scenarios which I am more than happy to cater for to create an excellent tutoring experience throughout.
