I love teaching and mentoring students and being able to watch their response as they grow and learn. I took up teaching 8 years ago, after working for 24 years in the national health service. I have taught in two fairly challenging secondary schools since. The progress made by the students in my classes has always been excellent. As well as teaching Science I have also been progress lead for GCSE students in the school, the research lead in school as well as being mentor to other teachers, helping with their teaching and learning.
I have a wide experiencing in whole class teaching as well as individual work with students. In 2022 I was awarded the Pearson National award (Teacher of the year) for secondary school teaching (Bronze winner). This award was given due to the outstanding progress made with the classes I taught.
I am very patient and easy going in my style of teaching. I have been said to be excellent at explaining science concepts which are usually difficult for students to understand. I make sure the student understands the topic or module before moving on. I use a lot of retrieval practice in my tutoring as well as using exam questions for consolidation. Over the years I have worked closely with SEN students ensuring high outcomes.
