Tommy

Hi I'm Tommy and I teach Latin, Greek and Classical subjects up to and including A Level/IB, as well as Oxbridge/University Admissions advice for Classics and humanities subjects generally. I graduated with a 1st in Classics (1A) from Oxford, I scored a 7 in IB Higher Level Latin, A in A level Ancient Greek (self-taught in a year), as well as other top grades and I'm passionate about the Ancient World generally. I'm fun, enthusiastic and approachable, like to help turn weaknesses into strengths, and make sure students emerge more confident and assured after my lessons. For my day job I work in the tv industry as a Producer / Assistant Producer, so tutoring gives me a nice change of pace!

Tutoring Experience

I have 315+ hours of combined private tutoring and classroom teaching experience in Latin, Greek, Classical Civilisation and Ancient History. I taught most of this year at an elite independent school, including Latin Year 9 through to year 12 (including OCR prose Tacitus set text), Year 9 Greek, Year 10 GCSE Ancient History, as well as IB SL CGRS. I have also run online and in-person revision and confidence building sessions in Latin Language and set texts for another high end independent school's GCSE and A-Level classes, as well as having a variety of online private tutoring experience in Latin and Classics across different age groups. I also have a decent amont of experience mentoring and conducting mock interviews for Oxbridge Classics admissions, including CAT admissions test practice. My feedback thus far has been glowingly positive and I hope to continue in that fashion!

Tutoring Approach

I am relaxed, good-humoured and like to encourage independent learning and I try not to spoonfeed students. I would say I am just the right amount of old school when it comes to learning the fundamentals, and it is always my aim to build students up and make them feel more confident after my lessons than when they entered
